A life of her own / Emilie Carles

In this autobiography, Emilie Carles highlights the major shifts and changes in her life from early childhood to early adulthood. Ive noticed this is a common theme in most of the readings that we have done thus far. . Throughout this passage of her autobiography, we are introduced to times when she had to persevere and grow whether it be emotionally, physically, or even just in her own society. She talks about her relationship with her father which resonated a lot with me as my father and I are not very close. She talks about the difficulties of maintaining a good connection with your family. She also talked about her goals and aspirations in wanting to be a teacher which I found very inspiring, giving back to her community. Emilie also references her marriage and the difficulties in her marriage correlate to her rough relationship with her father. I see this every day in my life as my relationship with my father has prohibited me from having a healthy relationship with a guy. when you grow up with a semi-absent father figure, it makes you believe that no man will ever be there for you or that you can trust.
