Life and death in Shanghai / Nien Cheng

During Nien Cheng's imprisonment, she was abused by many prison guards and inmates. The thing that puzzled me the most when I read this was how she managed to survive. In my opinion, she was able to maintain her spirit because of the small kindness she received while in prison as well as the way she was raised. Her interactions with most prison inmates are terrible in many ways. Her physical afflictions were often accompanied by the sense of doom she felt when she knew she might die. Despite their efforts, Nien Cheng's fighting spirit was not broken. Her fighting spirit didn't break, even when these guards tried to take away her choices, and because of that, she was able to survive and maintain her fighting spirit. This process was also assisted by a kind woman from the kitchen. In order to prevent her from having her hands, the other prison guards placed handcuffs on her. Infection developed in her hands after she was cut with the handcuffs.  this is just one of the many ways that the prison guards tried to demoralize her and make her think that there was no way out. they treated her like an animal, called her many horrible names, as well as abused her to no end. her spirit may have cracked a little bit but it never fully dissolved and she was able to remain as positive as possible despite being locked in a prison and being abused every single day although the story was very hard to read, and then he realized how much I complain about things and lose my positive spirit so quickly even in the smallest things and I was reminded that my worries are so minuscule compared to some things that people are going through.
